Hey everyone!

So, I was browsing through the 'Cards' section, and saw that the D&D V4's are sold out (and have been for a while). That being said, I'd love to host a contest with a pack of V4's as the prize! I've got about a dozen unopened and mint packs, so I can spare one. Plus, it will give you a chance to be creative!

Now, the winner will be chosen by the members of T11! I will create a poll, or two, with the contestants and you guys will vote for the winner.

The rules: 1. Go out and perform for REAL PEOPLE. (must be a new video, not something you've had.)
2. Video your performance and put it on a video sharing site.
3. Submit it in THIS thread for judging by 09-15-2010 11:00PM Eastern.

Please try and make the video 5 Minutes or Under. Video editing is fine, but I really want to see 'The Moment' of astonishment :D.

The best performance (judged by T11 Members) will get a pack of V4's :D (Mailed on the house).

So dust off those Dancing Canes, and show us what you've got!

PS. Anyone is eligible for this contest *Cough* Dan White *Cough*.

Hey guys,

Hey guys,

Well, today I was given a very strange, yet cool compliment that really made me happy. It was given to me by a teacher and a few students.

The compliment was very different from the usual "nice trick!" and "Wow" I get on a daily basis. This was the type of compliment that really made me feel like all the work I've been doing with magic and illusion for the past seven years has all really paid off in a big way. I really felt proud and felt that my magic had been performed to the best of my ability when I heard this.

Well, last year a group of students wanted to do a piece on me for our school TV channel. They were a part of a class in our school called "Multi-Media" which basically films informational pieces for our school TV station and edits them and all that good stuff. Anyway, they filmed some performances, and reactions. They did some interviews with me which they worked in throughout the video and in the end it was finished, and it looked great. You can watch it in our media section HERE or you can watch it on Youtube HERE. Whatever will work better on your computer.

Anyway, the video was completed and played on the TV about four times a day for four months and I got a few gigs and some recognition out of it, which was nice. But this year I actually took "Multi-Media" as one of my classes. So the first day of that class came around and we're trying to learn some of the vocabulary and what not for the class, and our teacher kept reffering to my video as an example. But, the true compliment came at he end when she let the whole video play through and she said:

"By the way Dylan, I don't think I ever told you how impressed me, or my class, was with your video last year. I mean we couldn't catch anything. And I will admit it, we even put it in slow motion and frame by frame and we still couldn't catch you!
I mean I literally had a team of three kids sit there and disect it and we came up empty-handed. Whenever we thought we caught we were sadly mistaken. It was fantastic!"

Even one of the students who was in the class last year and taking the class again for fun told me they had no luck trying to debunk any of my tricks and in the end they were so frustrated they just gave up and saved themselve's another headache.

This just really made me feel good because the film was taken from a spectators point of view, however, the problem with the camera is that when you film you don't move the camera around as much as a person moves their eyes and the camera winds up focusing on you for most of the time. This makes doing secret moves harder than usual. The other disadvantage to having a camera witch you is that now that trick can be rewinded, slow motioned, frame by framed, and re-watched as many times as the person wants.

So when I can beat the camera at its own tricks, I just felt so great and like I really have come a lng wat from where I started out. And my teacher really just helped me realize that and I really appreciate it a lot, and its just giving me more drive to continue my magic.

Thanks everyone!
Dylan P.

Hey guys, it's been a while since I've posted here, I wanted to throw out a topic for discussion that I've come across lately.

A while back I was in a youth group meeting and the topic of the night was Exodus 20:3; Do not have any other Gods before me, one of the 10 commandments. Some people might not realize it right away, but this is the commandment that causes many people to protest things such as Harry Potter, or similar sorcery based movies/books. It is believed that this "Sorcery" is the same thing as believing in another God, therefore, watching and supporting something like that is essentially blasphemy.

Now, I am technically Catholic, but I do not necessarily believe everything that Catholics believe. The people around me knew that I performed magic on a regular basis, so I thought I would bring that up as a means to further the discussion. After a few harmless arguments, I found out that they had assumed that I had never actually tried to convince anyone that what I was doing was actually magic, and that it would be going against my religion if I were to ever perform magic without clarifying that what I am doing is not in fact magic, and that there is some trick behind how I do what I do. I will agree with them to a point and say that it is very rare that someone fully believes that I have magical powers, but if everything I did was approached with the idea that there is just a trick behind everything I do, it would not have the same effect.

Through my experiences the best reactions from people come when they start questioning reality, where what just happened is so impossible that they do not necessarily assume magical powers, but the wonder and awe that they have is so great that it goes far beyond the idea of "just a trick."

So what's my point here? My point is not to call out the ideas and beliefs of different people and decide who's right and who's wrong, but to bring up that idea of how you approach the magic that you do for people. I know people here range from all different beliefs and religions, including atheists. This applies to you too though, because despite what the magician may believe, there are a ton of people out there that believe the idea of magic and wizardry is wrong and a sin to support. If you knew the person you were performing for had this belief, would you approach your magic differently? Probably, because someone like this is likely to have a better time if you weren't trying to get them to question reality, because someone like that will just never do that. Then what if you didn't know, and you end up offending someone because they don't appreciate the idea of real magic because it goes against their religion. However, this person could also be the type of person who, if you perform correctly for, would have an incredibly memorably moment as he or she starts questioning reality based on what you just did.

Thoughts, Ideas, I'd like to hear what some of you guys think or have come across with this matter :)

I had been in magic for a long time, and overloaded myself with stuff. I mean, I practiced and performed, but I bought ALOT of material. I stopped doing magic, and sold everything I had. My girlfriend and I saw a magic show, and she suprised me with a new set of spongeballs.

I have been practicing with those alot, and I remember ALOT of card stuff I used to do.

One thing I do still have that I did not sell is 13 Steps to Mentalism.

So, I have spongeballs, 13 steps, and I just bought J.B. Bobo's coin book. What you guys think?

The only thing I am worried about is that I have 2 text books basically. I am thinking about getting Sick by Ponta the Smith (for some more modern magic) and refer to BOBO's when I need to polish up on basic stuff (I am not a total beginner at coins I know quite a bit of stuff)

Anyhow, does anyone have any suggestions? Any tips or any other paths you think I should take to get started up again?

Thanks so much,
