View Full Version : What are you about? Why are you here?

Ok, so i'm going to start this whole thing off with something I've wanted to know for a long time.

I want to get to know most of the people on these forums, but I want to know, how serious are you? what are you about? I'll go first, please everyone can write up as much as they want about themselves and theory about magic and other things, just so everyone knows where you stand, are you a hobbiest? or a performer?

I'm Austin Fields, 16 years of age, got into magic a little over 2 years ago, I'm a performer, I believe magic is a pure art form and should be practiced and treated as such. I believe no matter how skeptic or how disbelieving someone is you can treat them to a good show of magic I'm not one of thoes types of people that think if your performing for adults you perform skill and present it as such, because they won't believe it's magic. I believe it's art, that it's entertainment, and something that should be respected. We may be secret keepers, but were still entertainers. I love to perform, I feel as if I'm graced with such an art, I will practice and present it proudly and openly, I love magic, I wish to dedicate myself to it and hope I make it, it's more than an art to me, it's a passion, to entertain, and amaze. Entertainment is in my blood, it runs through me, always wanting me to be the center of attention. I believe magic is not the art that we do, it's the feeling someone gets when they've just seen something that blows them away. Magic is a state of mind.

Thats brings me to why I'm here, I'm here to learn and teach what I know, I'm here because I take this seriously, I want to do this for the rest of my life.

This is who I am, Austin Fields magician.

I'm Allan Luu and I am a magician. I lvoe magic as a hobbie for now. In the future I want something that is going to bring me money (not to sound greedy) so I can live a good life with a nice house and if magic is going to do that for me then I will be happy to say that I am a magician for a living. But fi magic isn't going to do that for me then maybe it will just be an icebreaker when I am at a club when I am older.

For the mean time, I take magic very serious. I take it in as a true art and as an artist I strive to bringing people the magic and making there day just that much better.

I am also a skateboarder and to me magic is very veristile and I lvoe mixing my magic and my skateboarding together just to give people the feeling that magic isn't just pulling a rabbit out of a hat.

Nice thread by the way, it really got me thinking.

Sweet man, thats cool, just make sure you speak morracan? (sp?) not meaning to be offensive, just make sure you speak the local language so you can get a job at restaurants and the like. Could be a great start for you. Nobody has any standards for you to work towards.

September 1st, 2007, 02:47 AM
Who am I?

My name is Cory Landels, and I am from Victoria, Canada. I have been interested in magic all of my life, but it has been a serious hobby of mine for almost two years now. Magic is something I really love, and I feel that it raises a lot of awesome issues. I currently work at a restaurant every Monday night, and perform at any other event I can. I am 14 years old, and one day I'm gonna show the world what I can do...

My dream is to be able travel the world and shoot a documentary with other magicians about life, and just having fun and making the most out of it. We'll use magic to get the message across, and the film will change the world.

Well, I've travelled various forums in the *cough* 3 months I've been doing magic. My real name is Cody Cowan Lust and I live in Vancouver British Columbia. I am fairly new to magic but have learned and spent many hours into practicing and performing and can perform anything (basically) I set my mind on. I will soon be adding numerous videos to my youtube account of my performances and create my own graphics and such as well as techniques (I have a pop/beer can effect I have in the works). And that's my story up to now.

Hey man, don't worry about the lack of experience, it'll come. I am also a big fan of trying to change the world, or make some kind of impact on society with magic. I really think it's a powerful enough art that can influence a lot of people. For the record, I would love to be in your video Corey.

My dream is to learn all different kinds of magic and be good in all of them, and show everyone that magic does exist.

I'm from Victoria, Australia. Although I'm not a magician myself, I thoroughly enjoy the art and the creativity that fuels the community, I myself am more into the Cardistry/Flourishing side of this website. I love cards, I'm not sure why, but I carry them with me everywhere, though the lack of creativity in card magic (Don't lynch me) led me to move to the Flourishing side of card work, the kind of amazing things some people can do with a deck of cards is mind blowing. My favorite field of magic would be Mentalism, being a big fan of Derren Brown (I know not all his work is mentalism per se, but that's why I love it) and Luke Jermay.

I'm Hasan Saleh, and I'm from beirut Lebanon, although i was born and lived in the USA for 7 years. I started magic at the age of 12, but everything i did was pure me. I had no idea that magic was such a big society. My magic was mainly coin tricks, and some lame math card tricks. Then this year i saw a magic trick online, and came up with the idea of the double lift. I traveled to the states to find out more about magic, and here i am. I have got tons of magic DvD's, but i mostly try to figure out magic on my own. Once i realize the magic trick is really nice, i end up buying it.

Btw Arabic is the main language in Morocco, and french is the second language. Arabic is one of the hardest language. I take it at an easy level (beginner literature) and i barely pass.

Well my name is Vasay Bari. I'm 17 years old and currently living in Fernley, Nevada. I was born in Pakistan but lived most of my life in Canada. Been doing magic for about an year now and it's a huge hobby of mine. I spend a lot of time on it but also have fun in the process. For me magic is all about the reactions. My goal in life is to be a heart surgeon...who can do magic. Hope to have a good time here on Theory 11.

Oh HeTal, I speak a little bit of Arabic too. Not very good though.

S3al, good answer to why your here.

great, mid open heart surgery i'll have Vasay over me going "pick a card any card.... and magically.... the card ends up INSIDE your heart!" o.O

wow we have a lot of young magicians here..its good to start out early

hi..i'm Jesse and i'm from Singapore..and no i'm not a female it just happens that my dad name me after Jesse James >.<

anyway i'm 20 years old and in 2 weeks time..will be going to the army for 2years (which is mandatory for all males here)...which i hope i can still find time to practice the sleights and stuff

i've been into magic ever since i was like 7-8years old..i remember the local tv over here only screens david copperfield performance and i was pulled into the world of magic after watching his very 1st show

however i only started going really serious into magic like maybe 2-3months back as you dont see a lot of magic shops over here (i only know 1 shop here)...so i did not know where to buy the products and stuff..until i found ellusionist

as much as i love magic..i dont think i'm gonna use it as an occupation..maybe in the future when i feel that i'm skilled enough..i'll go do some charity performances or something

i'm mostly into cards and coins and i love visual..in your face magics where the effects just happens right before the spectator's eyes uncovered and there's no logical explanation to it..well at least to them..i also only got to know XCM recently and will be buying XB soon..flourishes are great ways to kick off tricks imo

this site is looking good..looking forward to more future product releases

Name's Brundo (not really, but I don't want to take the chance and find out one of you are really a 40 year old bus driver that gives out "candy" in the back of his black van ;), I'm turning 14 in a couple of months.

I've been into magic for a year now. I'm mainly interested in PK stuff, although I do have some card/coin sleight of hand tricks up my sleeve when I don't have a gimmick on me.
Came here because Ellusionist is to commercial for me. You know, your not allowed to mention other magic sites there or any tricks that aren't sold there.

Anyway, I hope I'll enjoy my stay here and wish this newborn site good luck!

hi i'm from Singapore , 16 years old, 3 years in magic. My name sounds chinese so i think i'll stick to my username.
i got into magic after watching david blaine, the way he amaze people. i wanted to do just that, and i'm glad i can do it now. i believe magic as a bridge between people, it gives people hope and takes them out of reality momentarily. i enjoy giving them this experience. i'm serious about magic and intend to take it as an occupation, although it will not be easy.
I'm into mentalism and magic with everyday objects and nature,as well as card.

i am also a member of the ellusionist forums, i think both sites are great. look forward to the upcoming products..

My name is Jeremy Kama, and I am from Hilo Hawaii. Why magic? If you ever have a chance to learn something amazing would you learn it ? Magic is one of the most interesting thing i came across. it started out as something new to learn( or something to do while doing in between jobs) ever sense i pro from in front of my friends I became really interested of how to be a pro former. how to get the reactions from people i don't know. i just started with magic (6 months). so i never go out there and pro from in front of people in the street. i want to prefect my routine then i might go there a try.

Hola all,

My name is Kaz, Im 21 (okay, okay..I'm really 35 haha) and I'm from Sydney Australia...the land down under :)

I've been a huge lover of magic and illusion for as long as I can remember. I think I was around 6 or 7 when I had my first interaction with the art. Admittedly, I have always loved to be on the receiving end of magic, but after being hit recently with a health issue, I found myself standing in a department store staring down at a pack of cards on the shelf and thinking "...you know what... this might actually be a great way to keep my mind preoccupied and learn something about the art at the same time!" lol. (Blonde logic, who says you cant teach an old blonde new tricks?)

So, I picked up that deck of cards and headed off to the magic store (after I paid for them of course hahaha...didnt want to start the first day of magic class making a decks of cards disappear from the store shelf, and make a set of steel handcuffs appear magically on my wrists *wink*.....although....the handcuffs could get interesting hahaha *sly smile*).

Anyways, enough babbling. So like some of you, Im only a newbie at this, but hope that Theory11 can help me make the journey into the world of magic a little easier.

*hugs to all*

Hey
My name is Scott.
And I'm a coin magician.

I live in Calgary, Alberta (in Canada), and I work at the only magic shop in Calgary (and the biggest retail magic shop in western Canada)- the Vanishing Rabbit Magic Shop.

I do coin tricks. It's what I do.
My biggest influences are by Shoot Ogawa, Michael Rubinstein, and David Roth, to name a few.

I am addicted to this type of magic. Sleight of hand fascinates me.

For those of you who want to see my work, come into the shop some time and say hi.

I'm in the process of writing out a lot of my original work with coins... eventually, I hope that some of you will be doing my stuff. I have a routine that I like to call "Scott and Soda" that I think will be a hit with all of you.

Presently I am going through Harry Lorayne's APOCALYPSE book set, and I'm finding some very interesting (and old!) coin stuff to adapt and work with. That's where the real good magic is; in old books and magazines like that.

Some of you will know me from other online forums.
(E, the cafe, 2dee, etc.)
My username is Kardillusions on those sites.

Just as an offer, if anyone has any questions on their coin stuff, feel free to send me a pm or email. If I can't help, I'll find someone who can.

Regards,

Scott.

Hey guys and girls. Ive been interested in Magic for a long time. I think it was from those David Copperfield specials they used to run on tv. Anyways what happened to that guy? I always loved Magic, the ability to do impossible things possible blew my mind away. For me the greatest reward is the astonishment you see in a person's eyes, the disbelief after I've pulled off a well performed card trick. Also I think it's super cool and can help you get the ladies.:D. I'm new to Magic only a few months in. To me Magic is the ultimate hobby and I hope to change it into a profession one day. Just moved to Jordan and Magic is unheard of here, so I'm really excited to be able to do my bit for the cause.

Good afternoon/however the day finds you..

My name is Darryn and I perform under the name Max DeVill. I have been doing magic for about 4 years and have just gotten into escapology. I am 29 and am currently deployed to Iraq with the US Army.

Magic to me is entertainment, pure and simple. It is our job to take people away from reality for just a moment. It allows them to forget their troubles for just a minute... sort of like a drug.

And thunderous applause doesn't hurt my ego either. :)

Hey everyone, my names Adam and like gimmickless i'm from the UK(rock on). When i was about 12 i started getting into magic, i had a few of those really cheesy magic sets, and a few trick decks and i wasn't too long before i stopped. However i'm 16 now and last year i visited America and went in a magic shop just to have a look and ended up spending quite a bit, since then i've really gotten back into magic and i love it.

I love impromptu close up effects, and since i got The Trilogy i've got into flourishing, i'm really looking forward to seeing what this site will accomplish :D

Thanks,

My name is Anton, I'm turning 16 in two days. I am best at card magic but I know a few mentalism and coin effects. I began magic at a young age although it wasn't really the hard hitting kind of stuff. I became serious with magic only about two years ago. I am a suporter of Ellusionist and alot of what I know comes from them. My favorite effects are Strange Travelers, Stigmata, and Revolution Coin Vanish.
At a young age, magic was just a way to impress people and get attention. I was a very attention seeking person. (I still am know but I've learned to control myself.) Now, I see magic differently. It is an art. It should be preserved and respected. Different people see it differently. Like all other art works, not everyone gets entertained.
In the world of art, magic is like an "endangered specie". It's slowly dying out because of all the exposure in this world. I will be proud to do what I can to help preserve magic.
More about me: I'll admit it now, I have done my share in exposing. I saw what was wrong with what I did and it is something not to be repeated. As a person who used to expose, I have learned the reason behind it. Exposure for me is a way for people to gain more attention when their performance and/or tricks did not satisfy the audience enough. Sometimes, "not so experienced" magicians expect people to follow them everywhere begging to repeat or learn a trick. Trust me, this kind of attention is not something you will ever get and exposure won't make this happen either.
I think I've said too much now, I'll end my post with this: I hope to enjoy my stay in these forumns and I beleive that theoy 11 has the potential to become number 1!

Well, I am here bcause of the hype:P No just kidding...that contributed to it but it said it was the revolution of magic. I look forward to seeing whats new and how the people interact here. I am sad that Decknique is shutting down, but it is all for the best.

I am about making people forget about life itselft and think of nothing other than magic. The unknown and the undiscovered. Pure astonishment is what I am about. Close-up magic...bizarre magic and possibly coin magic is what I am about. I twist peoples reaity so far that they think they aren't on planet earth anymore. Thast what I am about.

I think that everyone as a community will do well enough and help eachother out without putting them down or hurting there feelings. If this is possible, which it is then, I hope it happenes soon enough.

Hello everybody.

My name is David, I'm 24 and from the Isle of Man (U.K.). Been a serious student of magic for about 3 years now, although my interest in the subject dates back til when I was about 7 years old. Recently I turned semi-pro, doing corporate gigs etc. at an average rate of twice a month.

Like many others, I started off heavily into cards, and I still am, however my recent experiences performing in the "real world" have started me down the path of learning different kinds of effects - rope and ring, finger rings, elastic bands and some coin/money work.

I am a keen creator and many items in my repertoire are my own; one effect I am particularly proud of takes the colour changing deck in a slightly different direction and is currently my signiature piece, having gone down well in front of various audiences from laypeople right up to professional magicians in Las Vegas.

I am here for several reasons; curiosity to see what this place is going to turn out to be, to talk magic with other magicians and because I have a lot of respect for several of the creators of the site.

Cheers,
David

I live in Roanoke VA. , Moved here from Boston Mass. a few years ago to slow down my life and enjoy some things. One of the benifits of moving here is that I have more time for my family and the things I love. One of those being this Artform .... I enjoy performing for people Period. I love cards and , I couldn't picture a day with out them ... I am a hobbyist ..Who practices every day and takes it seriously .. I don't plan on making a living with this as I have different ways to do that .. I am just doing this because it feels right and it is what I want to do... I will be around these forums and I look forward to having many good conversations with all of you in the future.

I am just here to enjoy the magic and hopefully learn something new every now and then. The 100+ page thread on the Cafe perked up my ears a bit so I had to see what this was all about anyways. I must admit I am disappointed it is just another magic site....I was hoping to find out who shot Kennedy or if there really were aliens after all this hubbub! Just kidding, it's great to be here and hopefully T11 will be a great resource for everyone to learn from.

I'm Allan.

I'm from Norway, and I am seventeen years old.
Now for a very short biography, please bear with me through it, and I'm sure you get to know me as well as I know myself.

I was born in Norway. Grew up in Norway. And right now, I live in..Norway.
My childhood was a very easy one, I had a lot of liberty, and with no brothers or sisters there to bother me, I was pretty much a spoilt little bastard.

Well, I got interested in magic at around 5-6, and started out with that little cute magic kit..you know..

So, when I was like.. 7 years old, I entered a school contest at the school I went to (heck, I was in 2nd grade) and, I somehow butchered the effect I did so well during practice, and messed up.

Now most kids would have just started crying and went off the stage or whatever.

Allan, however, he learned a lesson. He found out about the thing we today call nervousity. A very interesting discovery indeed.

So, does he quit magic? N.. I mean, yes. For a while.

The following two years or so I get teased by older kids, "Show us a trick, magicican!" "Oh no, don't make us vanish" and so on, every [insert R-rated word here] day.

Well, during those two years I had secretly practiced, and actually learnt how to handle audiences and people a lot better, having becoming confident when performing for family and relatives (we all know what they can be like).

So, I go out and I own those older kids.. the end..

Oh, wait. damn.. I'm 17 now, not 9.

So, I take another break from magic.

At 11, I get into sleight-of-hand magic, and that primarily with coins. A month pass. I find out coins is not my field, and move over to cards.
When I'm 14, I meet Christopher Hestnes (who is over at Dan and Dave, and Decknique), who turns out to live very close to me.
He introduces me to Dan and Dave and their material. My life changes, as I am thrown into the professional world of magic. I start picking up the best of the best literature, and practicing and practicing and practicing. And.. here I am, today, with a fairly large knowledge of magic, a somewhat smaller knowledge of card flourishes, and a little arsenal of both effects and card flourishes, although my effects/sleights arsenal is probably ten times larger the card flourishes one.. Then again, maybe I only know one flourish.

I come here because I stand for what Theory 11 stands for.

Quality above quantity.

That.. and Aaron Fisher.

Allan.

Bizzaro,

man I'll be asking you for help on a stage show I'm attempting to come up with

Scott, my friend just moved to alberta, I may call him up and tell him to head over there, i'll tell him to say I sent him :-D

Darryn, It's good to have a escapologist (is that a word?) on here, I love escapology and would love to know a lot more than I do. And I'm sure you hear this a lot, but seriously man, thanks for serving our country, I don't necessarily agree with you being over there (not specifically you, I think the plan of the war is pointless and were risking so many lives for a lost cause.) But thanks for serving us, really truely.

Hi guys, my names Fraser Sorensen, and i'm 15 years old.

Some of you might know me from the Penguin forums, I sometimes visit Ellusionist and post there, and even more rarely, I take a trip to the Cafe.

I have been doing magic for the best part of seven years, but do not consider myself of anything short of an ammateur hobbyist.

I could be described as a Drama Geek (or attention seeker), but I can only see that as a compliment. I have played the Trumpet up to Grade Six standard over the last seven years, as well as playing tennis for that period also.

I like to think of myself as a down-to-earth guy with a ridiculous sense of humour. I always like to talk, so don't hesitate to hit the PM button if you need a chat.

Alternatively, my myspace can be found here (http://www.myspace.com/fspigeon).

Well since you asked.

I'm Katie. I am not a magician but I have been around the magic community for most of my life.
I am originally from Modesto, Ca. Only to have found myself living in LasVegas, NV doing what I love everyday.

I go to a lot of shows. If you want a review of any Vegas show, I'll give you one.

Being that I see magic almost everyday of my life, it is a passion of mine. I am a supporter in the revolution of magic. If you want to know more, I set up a profile. Or you can just ask.

My name is Adam Cole, and I am from just outside of Boston, MA. I am almost 17 years old, and have been into magic for around 8 years or so. I saw a magic show when I was very young, and I quickly got into it. I tried to learn as much as I could. Whenever I was on the Cape, I would force my parents to take me to the joke shop/magic shop. I am into close up magic, so I am not really a specialist in one area, but I dabble in cards/coins etc...I love acting as well, and I really enjoy presenting magic and not just the mechanics of it. I don't really perform much for actual groups or people I don't know, but I am working on it. I guess I am still worried about not being able to get respect due to my age and the fact I look younger =D Well thats a little intro I guess, and welcome everyone!

My name is Shane, and I'm in the Jamestown area of North Carolina. I'm 19 years old and am a freshman in college. I've been into magic ever since I was a little kid watching "The Worlds Greatest Magic" shows on television. Only recently, however, was I able to find a source for learning the art that I've been dieing to learn all of my life. I've been a part of other magic forums, but never did I actually feel at home with the forums or the people there. I hope that here is truly what Lee Asher called Home.

Hah, nice.

I remember being absolutly amazed by the performers. Also, who could forget Mac King's humerous parts. I was in shock when Max Mavin did a interactive trick through the television screen.

It's nice meeting you though Adam. I hope to see you around.

eagle I would love to edit a promo vid of yours, I've edited a couple small time videos for magic and my own stuff

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zTwwV5p0Fds

the intro is for a site that no longer exists, so it's not really a plug, and this is me a little more than a year ago, so if you do watch the video, don't bash it too hard, and don't clog up this thread with reviews, comment on my youtube account.

but thats just to show that I'm not a windows movie maker editor, I know what I'm doing.

edit: where you going to collage? anywhere near san diego and I could drive out and help you film the video.

Alrighty then, I suck at writing these little "About me" type things, but for laughs and for the sake of you all, I'm gonna try.

I'm Jon(athan) Rice. 16 years young, but age is a number..for the most part. I have been actively involved in acting and performance since age 5, appearing in different plays and musicals. I'm from Maryland, but on the state line so to you all Washington, D.C.

I've been interested in magic since the same time I started acting, but only actually got into the art around age 10. The first 2 years or so were fairly mediocre, as I took the wrong path. The third year, I met my mentor Chris McCauley, and that got me back on track. I love entertainment in general and I am a pure magic geek. If I were to classify myself, I would very likely be a card guy, though all types of magic interest me. One of the first things that made me want to get into magic were the old "World's Greatest Magic" Specials produced by Gary Oullet. I distinctly remember watching Rene Lavand performing his Oil and Water routine, Bill Malone performing "Sam the Bellhop.", and Juan Tamariz's utilization of the Car Buggy. Grand illusion was great, but the close-up stuff interested me more.

So, I do have to get this out there: Some of you may recognize me from a bunch of forums. Over the years, I have visited many. These include but are not limited to Ellusionist, The Magic Cafe (AKA Green Monstaa), The Genii Forum, dananddave.com forums, Penguin Magic forums, and decknigue. So what I really am trying to say is don't classify me as a penguin guy or an ellusionist guy or whatever. I am simply a magician (who happens to like to stay current).

So, I'm here because I've been watching the hype for theory11 just like the rest of you. What also intrigued me were the names involved. I respect each and every one of the artists involved in theory11, and more than one could go into my list of favorite magicians. The community here is going to grow for the good, and I can't wait to be a part of it all.

I'm always up for talking theory, magic, performance, sports, heck anything. So yeah. If you live in the maryland area, you can hit me up at Barry's Magic Shop once in a while.

And I still suck at doing "About me" type things, but at least you have an idea of what I'm about, and why I'm here.

Let's just not take ourselves TOO seriously.

J.

I don't think as a magician theres much room to take yourself seriously, your going to get shot down, criticized, kicked, bashed, hacked at, called a loser, sayings like get a life will often come down on your head, and just brush it off (go on brush your shoulders off) and keep going, it's not the end that counts, it's the journey.

fraud
September 1st, 2007, 06:31 PM
I am matt more commonly known as fraud because I goined the ellusionist forums right before the trick fraud came out in 2006 I love magic and would love to be a professional magician like wayne or somthing and create affects the only thing is I have alll these ideas for tricks but no methods for them I have a problem with coming up with methods. Another problem is that my freinds think I am good but I dont but I think that is because I listen to everything I have heard from pro magicians and remember it but I dont have the time to go out and perform it(being a kid is hard)

beans i live in texas im going to sam houston state university. i still need to clear some stuff up with the school because i work with the university and i asked a administrator if i could do it and he said that may be "soliciting" i thought that was one of the most retarded things i ever heard but i dont think it will stop me. as soon as i get everything set it may be 1 or 2 months but i'm in no hurry its not like the school is going to run out of students for me to perform on and i could also use some help on a routine what tricks should i do for 19-24yr old students? i'll let you know when everything is good to go thanks

Beans25
September 1st, 2007, 07:08 PM
no problem, I would say you should use whatever your good at, magic really doesn't have an age limit, the story you tell usually dictates the ages, you may have to change your patter but you can still do card transpositions, a coin routine, mentalism, it really doesn't change much for different age groups.

Hi guys, i live in Belgrade, Serbia (Europe) and have been interested in magic whole my life, but i'm practising it for only 2 months :( I am a basketball coach and magic is my hobby that i took pretty seriously (i practise a couple of hour's every day) and i'm a fast learner... But the only problem here is that people are not that interested in magic as they are in other countries. In last 15 years we have been trough 2 big wars and country separation, so people have so much on their mind, and they are very bitter so i dont think i can make any money out of magic here, but i will keep practising, who knows what may come up.

I am here to further my knowledge about and ability in magic, and incorporate it into my routine. I enjoy performing for others, and seeing their reactions. Hopefully, this site will help me to continue flabbergasting my audience.

My name is Ryan Nelson and I have been performing magic since my 9th birthday so that makes it about 6 years now. I'm turn 15 on the 17th this month so Im gonna be a big boy soon, haha.

I can not put into words how much I love magic as a whole. Just the whole concept give me goosebumps. Doing something no one eles can do has always ben a fascination with me and I finally found a way to express that through magic when I got a magic set from my grandma when I turned nine. I was hooked ever since. As most of you I looked of "Free Magic Trick" on Google and started checking out magic books outta the library and stuff like that. Later I found Ellusionist and start purchasing from there. I mustered up the courage to perform for my first stranger at the movie theatre when I was 11 and......it was one of the worste excuses of magic ever! Haha, but you have to learn the hard way to learn this art right?

Since I was nine magic was the only thing I wanted to do and to this day it's the only thing I want to do. To show people that the impossible is within reach of ordinary people like me. And a teenager at that! I want to have meaning in my magic and when I go out and perform whether it be on stage or walk around or for my family, I want it to mean something to the person I'm performing for.

I GUARENTEE YOU WILL SEE MY NAME IN THE FUTURE HAVE NO MISTAKE. Until the day I die and whether it kills me, I will strive to be the best ever.

My name is Alex Dinkelmeyer, I live in Florida, USA. I don't think Florida is all that nice too humid and it is constantly hot. I have been interested in magic for some time now. When I was younger I showed little tricks with my cousins, who are around the same age, and then would show them how it was done to show there friends. But now I perform magic because I like to make people wonder about things and make them have an enjoyable time and happy. And I never tell people how it is done.

Cory don't tell anyone your idea, thats how they get stolen. Like me, I have this dream that someday I will be able travel the world and shoot a documentary with other magicians about life, and just having fun and making the most out of it. We'll use magic to get the message across, and the film will change the world. But I would never tell anyone.

I love to practice magic and love the reactions I get when I do perform. I'm currently trying tio give myself the motivation to get out on the streets and perform for strangers(stupid jitters of mine :) I consider myself more of hobbyist more than anything, and I wouldnt mind if my magic and skills got me places in the future, only time will tell.

Hello all!

I'm Pj, a 27 year-old semi-professional magician. I make almost all my income from performing magic in Western, MA and surrounding areas, and I have been since I moved back this way from college in 2002.

My magic beginnings are very different from most in the "video age" of the art. I only went to a magic shop once from the time I was six (when I caught the bug) until I was 18. My uncle was and still is an amateur magician, so I would see tricks a lot, but he never taught me. "Go home and figure it out," he'd say. So after a while, I did.

My magic performances are split between my close-up work and my stand-up act I've been developing with a fellow magician for the past year. We perform a 90 minute act together, and it's the most fun I've ever had as a magician.

I love magic and so far it's loved me back. I am not on the boards much because I'm always working, but I do check them.

I can't wait to see where this takes us!

Hello, my name's Ivan, and I'm known as Avancer around here. I live in Mississauga, Canada (it's beside Toronto ;)) And have joined to meet people who share the same love I do for magic. I think this place will be a great learning experience and a fun way to learn about other artists and all the other stuff that comes out of being in a great community.

Hey all,

I told you all that I would reveal more about my magikal background and how I got interested in this wonderful wizards and witches brew that brings joy to the masses and is understood throughout the world...

My name is Ashley I'm 23 years old and the magic muse found me at the age of 11 -12 when my parents took me to see David Copperfield in Cleveland OH. I have to tell you that watching the illusions performed by this wonderful man, sitting in the nose bleed section high in the balcony, looking through binoculars, I was astounded at what I saw. I watched the faces around me, happy, not angry or thinking of there problems, and I knew that this is where I belonged and so badly needed to be. Soon after seeing David, at 13 my sister bought me Mark Wilsons Complete Course in Magic and I picked up a deck of cards and well, the rest is magik history... I wrote to Lance Burton when I was 13 and recieved a letter from Lance as well as an autograph. I don't know if any of you remember a magician by the name of Rudy Coby, a.k.a. Labman, I wrote to him and got an e-mail back *although I don't know what happened to him, his character was great, a real inovation in the magik world*

At 18 I met David Copperfield for the first time, he was going to use me for an effect called Anthrax that is currently on his tour, *in case any of you don't know what effect that is, it involves a Black African Scorpion and a deck of cards* I didn't end up doing that piece though... *you can read about that tragedy on my blog on my myspace* Meeting David again in 2005 and getting to go onstage for Portal was something I will never forget for the rest of my life... the mans a genious. *I was one of the girls that held a postcard then David took our photo* He met with my family afterward, I recieved an autograph and he took a picture with me. Most recently I met him yet again in 2007 and once again this time got to drawl on his postcard... that night I got Chris Kenner and Homer Liwags signatures on my Magic Magazine that Chris was featured in... thast basically me and my journey thus far... I'm an amateur at this point, and I know that I have ideas and inovative inspiring magik vignetts that have to be put on the stage.... I'm so thankful to be alongside the women in this industry and the men too. I'ts a scary thing to come into your own and find your voice, but I'm making it one step at a time...

Hi I can be known as Dunstan, I am here because I feel the need of connection with a magical community so to speak. Years and dates are all just numbers to me, and frankly my dear.. I'm bad at maths.

I am currently in Sarawak which is a remote location somewhere in Malaysia (in South East Asia) and we don't get much magic shows here, and crowds here are terrible (check my blog).
So for the most part I am in the dark about magic with my only source being the internet and some rare books in libraries.

I guess i'm a jack of all Tr(sp)ades.. dabbling with everything except xcm's as there are no books on those here.. and frankly our currency does not show well in the world eyes. I will move to Perth next year so hopefully I can find a mentor there..

I actually did not know about the hype of this site and all that, and I guess I just sort of stumbled onto this place. I am interested in magic as it has everything but brings itself to seem like its nothing. It has dexterity, music, showmanship, psychology and more..

I like the idea of reality vanishing for that brief moment when one is performing..

thats it for now :) so...
regards,
Dunstan

P/s: I would love to join on the journey around the world doing the documentary :P

Hello everybody, my name is Harapan Santoso Ong, please call me Harapan.

I am as of today 17 years old, living in the small island of Singapore, and I have been practising and performing magic for a long time already. I bought my first magic set when I was 10. If I count that as the time I started learning magic, that would be 7 years. But I know it's much longer than that...

Most youngsters or teenagers, such as me, started only during the Blaine revolution. While this was the starting point for many, Ellusionist, Blaine, Angel and the rest came in the middle of my magic journey. This meant I experienced both the old times, where I had to rummage through library shelves to find one little magic book that teaches basic tricks, and the modern times, where people who have learnt magic for 3 months may already have more resources than me.

I think this has made me a more matured, knowledgeable magician. I am still young, the road's still long, but I know I'll reach the end one day.

My dream in magic is to make magic a professional career, and be the best in what I do. Also, I want to have a positive influence on the magic scene. Meaning, I want to help.

That's who I am.

I am here in Theory11 because I had high expectations of this community.

That's why I am here.

- harapan. magic!
