What are your top 5 favourite, hard hitting, impromptu effects?

madisen
September 3rd, 2007, 05:16 AM
These I like:

Time Machine by Steve Freeman - easy hard hitter
Impromptu Rising Card - fools magicians
Ambitious Card Routine - has become a classic, great trick
Penalty Box - One of my favourite Sankey trick
3 card monte - New York, here I come!

1. Biddle Trick - Simple Trick. Magic happens in their hands and transposition happens from your hands to theirs

2. a logical lesson - this requires some set-up. However, the reaction is better than all the other tricks that i have stated

3. Influential (original trick) - 4 jokers are shown. one visually changes into their card. Next, the other three are placed into the spectators hand where they change to a four of a kind. You are left absolutely clean. The deck is given to the spectator to hold throughout. No gimmicks are used. However, there is small set-up involved and 4 jokers are needed to make it look realistic

4. 2 card monte - Again magic happens in their hands and ends unexpectedly. (requires little set-up)

5. Among the discards - nice 'sandwich' trick where the sandwich occurs at unexpected place

I'll list 5 impromptu ones I like, but there are lots more

I'll name 5 that have not yet been mentioned so as to help get a greater variety of effects

Thought of cards across- Christopher Williams and Gary Jones's versions.
James Brown also has a great version called Brainless Travelers.

Card to pocket- James Browns version

Catalyst- Signed card transpo by Peter Harrison

Back to basics- Peter Harrison effect/routine

FU2- T&R by Sean Fields

It's nice to know that someone uses this, I think it's great. The only downside for me is that I personally I don't have the guts to perform it without looking an idiot; my ideal routines to use are ones that are "scripted" (as are most).

Anyway, good choice man,

Strongest Effects that are dead simple you can do in your sleep:

Sandwhich effect. My own variation..make sure each faze gets increasingl inpossible.

Biddle trick..I like to get the "5" cards and say was it... no wait .. until i say there cards name they say yes..then tent vanish any one of the 4 cards and it hightesns the effect massively.

Standing Challenge By Aaron Fisher..This is in his book The Paper Engine and is deffinetly a magician fooler. So completely fries lay people i highly recomment you pick up his book its awesome.

Buffaload- An erdnase idea with suprise ending..This is the cleanest 2 card tranposition iv ever seen and i love performing it..It fries magicians and uses no duplicates. Seriously clever.

52 to 1. Dunno whose this is by but still an awesome different effect where they select a card its returned and shuffles. then u deal one card to the spectator and 1 to you alternatly till no cards are left. Then again u deal from your piles alternatly half each so they have 39 now u only have 13. keep doing this till you only have 1 and they have 51. What are the odds you have they card? Well you do. Killer trick

Biddle trick.
Ambitious card.
Any good sandwich effect especially if it's in their hands.
Any good card switch from spectator's hand.
The variation on the selection transportation to a 4 of a kind which I like a lot (done in the spectator's hand) which I learned off of James Brown's Still Fancy a Pot of Jam (it's called Diminishing Cards or something like that, it uses the Diminishing Lift sequence).

I learnt it straight from Lennart during the Melbourne magic convention.
I assume that it's on one of his DVDs also tho.
He is a great guy, one of the most approachable and down to earth genius' there are about the place I'd say.

1.A trick i camed up with(i hope it's original <---> i do a spread,...a spectator chooses a card(any card) then he inserts it back into the deck.I slap the deck and instanly all the cards in the deck turn face up, only he's card remains face down...and i end up totaly clean.
2.Ambitious card routine.
3.KAOS - i forgot who invented it
4.STIGMATA by Wayne Houchin

Here's my 2 cents on this topic :

- Triumph, definitively one of my best reaction getters !
- 4, 5, 6 packet trick in Sal Piacente's expert card magic lecture notes. Looks absolutely impossible ! (quite similar to Devastation on Geoff William's "Miracles for Mortals", but stronger in my opinion).
- The eye of Stonehenge by Lennart Green
- Stigmata by W:H of course, so simple to perform and yet SO hard hitting
- KAOS, by Sean Beard...WOW a signed CTW which is also impomptu !!! Could you ask for more ?

I didn't mention it here, as it requires a pen to sign a card, flash paper and a lighter (not so impromptu, so a bit off topic, but appart from that "The Phoenix Effect" from Jay Sankey is unbelievable !)

what does impromptu mean?...what is impromptu?
1. Prompted by the occasion rather than being planned in advance: an impromptu party.
2. Spoken, performed, done, or composed with little or no preparation; extemporaneous: a few impromptu remarks. See Synonyms at extemporaneous.

Two words:

Paul Cummins

The stuff in FASDIU 1 and 2 is just as the name implies, from a shuffled deck in use, and some of the most hard hitting and practical material one can find anywhere.

I use quite a few things from these works on a regular basis.

Hi folks, I want to learn magic card tricks. Actually I want to take this as a profession and I want to earn money through this. I know a decent number of card tricks and I'm pretty good at them, but now I'd like to turn that into some cash. I don't want to do "magic shows" for kid’s parties or corporate events; I just want to do card tricks for people on the street. How can I make money with card tricks?

Bijlogg
August 2nd, 2008, 02:58 AM
It's virtually impossible to earn good money by doing card tricks for people you walk up to on the street. I would suggest you get a proper job and keep magic as your hobby. It's much more fun that way around.

Tom

I'd have to disagree with you here. I know many people who make more busking than I make at my job, and actually make their living off of it. (though my business income is more than both, hehe). I'd have to say get some experience on the streets and work on your presentation. As far as actually making money, there are plenty of threads here that explain it. (if not here, then I know Ellusionist's forums do)

Impromto is tricky at first but such a huge lesson for performers.

My CUrrent top 5 are:

1. Keshian crossover (my own)
2. Twistz (Rory schlimer)
3. Ambitous card (hehe i dont actually know...practically everyone)
4.card to mouth ( i think this is possibly the cheekiest and simplest card trick i know)
5. Spiral flux (me)

One nice touch that with practise canbe made into a half decent trick is simply palming the deck. At first i was like "are you serious? people are not that dumb" it is not a question of inteligence. It is how well YOU do it. I often use it to "blag" past people if i dont wantto perform. I say like i lost my cards or..they keep moving... try it.....

oh my goodness i blabbered far to much.

Hello everyone, I once saw a video of David Blaine pulling his heart out (on a TV show). It looked incredibly realistic. I suspect he used latex or something to cover up his body but the fingers went pretty deep inside and the heart coming out looked very real. How did he do that? Any clues on how he did that? Thanks a lot in advance for any real reference.

Hmmm... my most commonly performed would probably be the basic stuff you learn just starting out (tyvm Brad Christian). So, not including those obvious routines like ACR, 2CM, Biddle, etc., then a couple are (in no particular order):
Half vanish, DM - very recently saw it & realised how cool it looks
Card to pocket - usually I cop it though, my classic palm sucks
Hand to mouth, D&D - scares the hell out of people
Random card force/prediction/mind reading - always worth a try
Gambling routine
